Lenovo moto z play replacement modules. Moto Mods - complete list of all modules

More than ten years ago, a very interesting project appeared in the world of technology - a telephone with a projector. Since then, very few such devices have been produced.

When smartphones firmly entered our everyday life, the developers of some well-known companies decided to create test phones with a projector. True, such developments have never been very popular among users.

Today it is very difficult to buy such phones, and the last such sample was released in 2016. Since then, no one has even said that it would be worth thinking about making a new such phone.

1. What is a device with a projector

And the idea itself is very interesting. It consists in the fact that the user can project the image onto the canvas or even onto his hand.

Of course, these phones also have a main screen that displays messages, pictures and other information that is usually displayed on smartphones and tablets. Figure 1 shows how it works.

Rice. No. 1. Phone operation with a projector

And now consider the 5 most popular today such devices. The way they are located in our TOP determined several factors. And this is popularity among users (how many people talk about the phone in in social networks) and availability for purchase.

Motorola releases phones very infrequently, but it does it quite successfully.

Indeed, almost all devices from this company are popular. And all thanks to a truly responsible approach. So the developers approached the development of Moto Z, let's say, with very unconventional thinking.

The fact that this is a modular smartphone is already noteworthy. This means that many additional modules can be added to it.

This unit can be a projector, a full-fledged audio system and, in the end, an ordinary smartphone. To make it a projector, you can use the Insta-Share Projector module. According to the developers, it allows you to create a picture with a diagonal of 70 inches.

The smartphone itself looks really upscale. It is extremely thin - 5.2 mm. On sale there are silver, gold and black devices. The front panel is unusual, as for such equipment.

Rice. No. 2. Motorola Moto Z

Its technical characteristics are as follows:

  • AMOLED-matrix, the diagonal of which is 5.5 inches;
  • camera 13 MPix (front camera 5 MPix);
  • processor frequency - 2.15 GHz;
  • RAM- 4 GB, operational - 32/64 GB.

Very high quality phone!

In 2010, Samsung released its first device with a projector, in 2012 it received updates, and in 2014 it appeared samsung galaxy beam 2.

Today, people in China can buy it. Although some domestic stores also have it. On the other hand, these stores are rather strange. It is better to buy such a phone on Aliexpress. He is definitely there.

As for the characteristics of the projector, it is capable of displaying a picture with a resolution of 800x480.

Samsung representatives themselves said then that this device was designed to work. So the user can make a small presentation for his colleagues at work. Of course, watching a movie with such a resolution will be inconvenient, but this is quite enough for a presentation.

The phone itself looks quite impressive, there is Samsung's signature design, a nice silver or white color and a great case with streamlined corners. In general, good enough.

Rice. No. 3. Samsung Galaxy Beam 2

The specifications of this machine are as follows:

  • screen at 4.66 inches;
  • 5 MP camera;
  • 2600 mAh battery;
  • There is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.

Sharp SH-06C is another very unusual Japanese design. This device looks somehow old, not at all like a smartphone. But it is worth considering that it was released more than seven years ago, then its appearance was just fine.

As for the projector, this smartphone is capable of producing an image with a resolution of 640x360.

The developers highlight the high brightness of the picture, which is 9 lumens. At the same time, audio in Dolby Mobile 5.1 format is output along with the image.

Rice. No. 4. Sharp SH-06C

Technical features Sharp SH-06C are:

  • 1520 mAh battery;
  • built-in memory - 8 GB, operational - 1 GB;
  • 4.5 inch screen;
  • 8 MP camera;
  • eat Bluetooth support, GPS;
  • protection standard - IPX5 or IPX7 (protection against dust, moisture, shock and temperature extremes).

Interestingly, you can buy Sharp SH-06C in regular stores. Moreover, the phone also comes with a microSD card.

This is the oldest and most affordable phone from our today's TOP. This is not even a smartphone, but a completely ordinary phone, released more than ten years ago. A real mammoth! In it, all the characteristics are quite suitable, but only for 2007.

Specifically, we are talking about the following features:

  • 3.2 inch screen;
  • two cameras at 1.3 MPix;
  • mp3, 3gp and mp4 playback;
  • photo only in jpg, gif and bmp format;
  • built-in memory (attention!) - 73.1 MB;
  • memory for 1000 SMS messages.

Rice. No. 5. MFU projector p790

The projector meets all the above specifications. He, frankly, is not very good as of 2017, but he is.

6.Lenovo Smart Cast

It's like those futuristic pictures we see in sci-fi movies. There, one of the characters is given some kind of small apparatus, he presses a button, and an image of buttons appears on some surface. He clicks on them and performs certain tasks. In short, the future is near!

The projector itself is located in a fashion top that can be rotated.

As for the appearance of the smartphone, then, frankly, not for everyone. But this module allows you to display an image both on a horizontal and vertical surface. Movement allows you to fix a special infrared detector.

Thanks to this approach, absolutely any surface can be made touchable. The process of using it looks very interesting.

Rice. No. 6. How to use Lenovo Smart Cast

Unfortunately, this device is not currently available for purchase. In 2015, he was presented at one of the conferences. Since then, there has been no news about the Lenovo Smart Cast.

So far, it remains only to wait when this phone will still be available for purchase.

Below you can see his video presentation.

With the development of new technologies, manufacturers of various equipment are constantly trying to introduce some kind of innovation in order to attract buyers and come out on top in the ratings. In the world of smartphones, the fashion for devices with replaceable modules has gone. So far, only the well-known manufacturer Motorola has turned out to be really interesting and of high quality. Their Moto Mods surprise consumers not only with variety, but also with a range of incredible features.

New Motorola smartphones with replaceable modules. Rating 2020

American-made devices have been popular among buyers in many countries for several years. New smartphones always delight people, because for them they open up something new and completely unexpected. Typically, the module is mounted on the back cover and performs specific functions. Basically, replacement modules are suitable for Moto Z and Moto Z Play models.

According to users, the most interesting models are:

1. Moto Z Play

Enough has a lot of advantages and positive reviews. One of the main features of the smartphone is its thickness, which is only 7 mm. Of course, this indicator cannot be called a record, but it is also very good. In addition, it features an 8-core processor and a dedicated slot for memory cards up to 2 TB. It provides a function of accelerated charging and a fingerprint scanner, which are undoubted advantages. The disadvantages of some buyers include only a screen diagonal of 5.5 inches. It, unfortunately, does not suit all users, although Full HD resolution and other advantages easily cover this nuance.

2MotoZ

The flagship of the company is very similar to the previous model, but there are still cardinal differences in them. It is one of the thinnest devices in the world, as its thickness is 5.19 mm. At the same time, the flagship is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4 GB of RAM. The disadvantages include not too high battery capacity - 2600 mAh. Otherwise, there are no complaints about the device.

Useful video Reviews

3. Moto Z2 Force

Another powerful flagship of the manufacturer is distinguished by a unique processor with clock frequency at 2.45 GHz. On its front side, you can see a 5.5-inch display with an excellent matrix, which is protected from shock. Front-camera this device It has only 5 megapixels, but it has an LED flash. As for the rear (main) camera, it is presented in the form of a dual module with 12 megapixel sensors, as well as a dual LED flash, which cannot be ignored. In addition, there is a fingerprint scanner on the front, which aims to provide an additional level of protection for the user's personal data.

4Moto M

Pleasant in appearance and quite easy to use smartphone, oddly enough, along with the advantages, it also has certain disadvantages. Fortunately, the number of the first is much higher, which is why it is present in this ranking. The main advantages of the model should definitely include quite good autonomy, support for two SIM cards, a great screen, and decent cameras. performance is one of the drawbacks. It's certainly not that bad, but for its price ($300), many buyers find it inadequate.

5Moto G4

The ideal smartphone for users who do not care about appearance at all. It will fulfill all the wishes of those who prefer the balance of the device. This model has a practical and not too easily soiled body, as well as a chic camera that could compete with other models on this list. The only negative of the smartphone is the fact that the fingerprint scanner does not quite match the overall design.

6.Moto g4 plus

The device, which differs from the previous one only in some details, deservedly gained its popularity from the very moment it went on sale. There is a separate slot for a memory card, a fairly wide range of modifications and a high-quality screen. The downside of this device is a modest design, which can not be called modern, although it does not stand out from the mass of other smartphones.

7Moto Z Droid

The model with a high-quality body has a nice appearance, a 13-megapixel camera and a number of other features. This smartphone stands out from the rest in the fact that it can take great pictures with or without a module connected. The undoubted advantage of the model under consideration is, of course, the support of replaceable modules. In addition, a number of pluses include a fast charging process, excellent performance and a stock operating system without shells. However, the device also has certain disadvantages. These include: the lack of a 3.5 mm jack, as well as fast and well-perceptible heating during prolonged use.

8. Moto G 3rd gen

A product with an ambiguous design always attracts the attention of young buyers. Its thickness is 11.6 mm, which at first glance seems too high, although in fact it is not so difficult to get used to it. During use, the smartphone seems quite thin and comfortable. The main camera has 13 megapixels and allows its owner to capture clear shots both in the daytime and at night. People who have been using the device for more than a day note only one minus - support for only one SIM card.

9Moto X Force

A balanced and fairly high-quality flagship smartphone appeals to lovers of the big screen, photography, as well as users who use their devices at an intense pace. It provides good sound even without a module plugged in. In addition, the main advantages of this product are: fast charging, shockproof housing, shatterproof glass and high quality cameras. Gamers note the only drawback, which is a fairly quick discharge of the device in the game mode.

10MotoX

The list is completed by an interesting model with unique features that are currently observed only in Motorola products. There is a high-quality screen with a high resolution, a beautiful body, as well as a variety of design solutions, which allows the buyer to choose the most suitable option for himself. The disadvantages are the lack of a slot for a memory card and not always good autofocus performance.

Popular Motorola plug-ins

To date, a number of modules are available for Motorola smartphones both from the same manufacturer and from other brands. Among their variety, each buyer will be able to choose for himself a suitable model for functionality and taste.

If you are looking for reliable smartphones with the ability to "upgrade" appearance, if you are interested in having a model of a well-known brand, we offer you to get acquainted with Motorola phones of 2016 - Moto Z, Moto Z Play and Moto Z Force devices.

Moto Z Series Features

A feature of Moto Z series smartphones is the ability to connect additional blocks to them, the so-called .

Built-in smartphone cameras

We will consider the differences between the indicators of built-in cameras at the end of the article, but here we point out that in terms of aperture ratio, the best indicators are the Moto Z and Moto Z Force (f / 1.8) models, the largest pixel size (1.3 microns) has the Moto Z Play smartphone .

Differences between Moto Z smartphones

Which of the Moto Z smartphones can be optimal for you?
If you want to have a model in a metal case with maximum technical characteristics, we recommend that you pay attention to the Moto Z and Moto Z Force smartphones.
If your choice is a more compact device, then the best candidate from the existing "trinity" than the Moto Z is simply not to be found, however, if you are interested in a device with more developed photo capabilities and a powerful battery, then the Moto Z Force is already put forward in the first place.
However, the desire to listen to music in a "traditional way" through headphones with a 3.5 mm jack, and for quite a long time, the ability to have optimal technical characteristics make it possible to opt for the Moto Z Play model.

We will show the differences between smartphones in the form of a table

Yes, Motorola no longer plays a decisive role in the market - we probably will never wait for the new RAZR. But to do something faceless? Maybe high quality, but ordinary? This is not about Moto - Lenovo clearly needs the brand in order to take risks. The new Z-series smartphones - in the manner of last year, these are Z, Z Play and Z Force - received an unusual chip, as if inherited by engineers from Google, under whose wing Motorola huddled for several years. We are talking about a modular design, albeit in a much less radical implementation than in Google Ara.

On the back of any Z-series smartphone, you can attach an accessory with various properties: the most logical additional battery, speaker, projector or camera with optical zoom. The column, by the way, was developed jointly with JBL, and Hasselblad was attracted to create a photomodule - well, or at least they used the big name of the Swedish company.

The “basic” Moto Z model came to our test, which stands in the middle between the less powerful, but designed for a long time without recharging Z Play and similar in technical specifications, but at the same time equipped with an indestructible Z Force display. In addition to modularity, I immediately want to draw your attention to several other distinguishing features of the Moto Z: the AMOLED screen, which is still rare for smartphones not under the Samsung brand, and the ultra-thin (slightly more than five millimeters) body, stuffed with microphones - thanks to them, communication quality should improve. And, finally, a trendy innovation - the absence of a mini-jack for headphones.

Appearance, ergonomics and software

We are used to adjusting the outside world to suit ourselves - at least in small things, surround ourselves with “our own”, individual things. Recently, smartphones have become one of the central objects in our lives - small, barely distinguishable from each other pieces of metal / plastic with a screen. You can express yourself through them only with the help of designer protective cases. In the days of phones with removable batteries and, accordingly, replaceable back covers, some companies offered variations in this area. Motorola still employs people who remember those times very well - and the concept of a removable back cover has returned in the new family. The battery, however, is non-removable, but that same modularity came to the rescue.

The Moto Z looks a bit intimidating out of the box, with a protruding camera bump, branded glossy surface, and sparkling pins for connecting plug-in modules. The back cover lies separately - it slightly covers the “shame” and returns the smartphone to a more familiar modern look design. By default, this is a "fabric" (actually plastic) cover in the manner of Moto X Force. For 1,990 rubles, you can buy something else - there are plastic in different colors, under the skin and under the tree. The smartphone itself comes in three variations - black, white-silver and white-gold (the rear magnetic panel is painted gold or silver). You can imagine the scope for combinatorics.

Replaceable modules, like covers, are mounted on the back with magnets - in one movement and very securely. It's done really well. And in general, in terms of thoughtfulness and quality of execution, Moto Z in the first place suggests the iPhone. Moreover, the absence of a 3.5 mm jack is also striking. As a result, in the kit we find an adapter "USB Type-C - mini-jack". But there is no cable "USB Type-C - USB Type-A" in the box, the wire to the complete charger for some reason soldered tightly. If you want to connect your smartphone to your computer - buy the cable separately. An inexplicable decision, to be honest.

But in the box there is a translucent bumper - it seems that the package was invented using a random number generator.

However, the surprises do not end there, Moto Z is a really unusual gadget. Under the screen, we see a square area - here, as you might guess, a fingerprint scanner is built-in, as well as the Home key ... But no, the last statement is wrong - this only Fingerprint's scanner. And the Home button is virtual, located on the screen. Why? Why?! Apparently, because they could. But I lied a little - in fact, with this key, touch-sensitive by the way, with vibration feedback (an iPhone again?), You can turn off and turn on the display in one movement.

The scanner, by the way, is classic, capacitive, works very quickly and stably - if you do not damage or get your finger dirty. Everything is at a standard high level for a modern flagship smartphone. The scanner can only unlock the device or make (future) purchases with Android Pay.

On the sides of the scanner, and this is most noticeable in the light version of the Moto Z, there are two microphones. There are four of them in total: one more is located on the upper edge and on the back panel (bottom). They help to provide excellent noise cancellation: you will be heard even in strong winds or on the subway - tested. I also draw your attention to the flash for front camera above the display - this, however, was the case on the last generation of older Motos.

In addition, Moto Z is the thinnest flagship smartphone to date: 5.19 millimeters. Without taking into account the protruding camera, however, it is noticeably larger with it, but still nothing terrible. In addition, for a gadget with a 5.5-inch display, it is very light - only 136 grams. For lovers of glass, metal and “pleasantly heavy hand”, God forgive me, devices may seem lightweight - but I liked it. The device slightly breaks the mold - at first glance it seems gigantic, especially after the Sony Xperia X Compact, which I used directly before Moto Z. But you get used to it instantly. Although it is, of course, impossible to use it with one hand - the screen is too large.

Add to all of the above an unusually organized camera module, where both the lens and the dual-LED flash are inscribed in one round block, and we get the most non-standard-looking flagship smartphone of 2016. Yes, it's a little frilly, but without the ridiculous decisions and frills - great job, Motorola (and Lenovo)!

The smartphone runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the prospect of upgrading to Android 7.0 Nougat. There is, in fact, no shell - we are dealing with a "clean" operating room Google system, flavored with only a handful of proprietary Moto utilities that add a few feints in gesture or voice control. For example, you can turn on the flashlight with a double swipe, and the screen turns on by itself if you pick up your smartphone from the table - nice little things. And no litter operating system redundant applications.

Pluggable modules

I managed to try two replacement modules for Moto Z - JBL speaker and a Hasselblad PV module. First of all, the big names of partner companies attract attention. No one admits (at least for the foreseeable future) how great the contribution of Harman or the famous Swedes to the development of these things is, recalling the experience of Leica and Huawei in creating mobile cameras: there is every reason to believe that a well-deserved company participates only with its name and authority. However, this is just speculation.

And the modules themselves turned out to be very curious. First of all, the simplicity of their use attracts attention. They are fastened to the body instantly and very reliably - the magnetic system was invented and implemented perfectly. To remove them, you just need to grab the recess and apply minimal force. No switches, additional locking buttons - an extremely intuitive and simple system.

There is no need to download and install additional software - a single pre-installed Moto Mods application is used, which independently recognizes the currently connected module and rebuilds the system for its use. An additional battery icon appears in the status bar, if we are talking about a speaker, the camera interface changes if we connect the Hasselblad module - the smartphone is perfectly ready for this.

Externally, Moto Z, of course, is not changing for the better, turning from the thinnest flagship smartphone into the thickest and most bulky. But also quite within reason.

MotoJBLsoundboost. One of the most logical modules that provides a smartphone with a powerful enough sound so that it would not be a shame to make it the center of an impromptu party. However, this is about the level of JBL Clip, if you look for analogues in external mobile speakers of the same brand. Power and detail even level JBL Charge miniature Soundboost will not give - but the thing is quite convenient and compact.

Hasselblad True Zoom makes the Moto Z (as well as the Moto Z Play) the successor to (if I may use that word here) Samsung Galaxy Zoom and Samsung Galaxy Camera. Outwardly, the new creation of Motorola / Lenovo really looks like them: a huge touch screen on one side and a “digital soapbox” on the other - with a perforated ledge for gripping with the right hand, a protruding lens even when turned off, an impressive flash and even an autofocus backlight lamp. Separately, the build-up in the lower part of the lens rim is amusing - an obvious stylization for the lens release button from the mount. The main thing that the Hasselblad module gives the smartphone user is a 10x optical zoom.

The characteristics of the camera are quite ordinary for a modern compact. It uses a 1 / 2.3 '' matrix with a resolution of 12 megapixels and optics with focal lengths of 4.5-45 mm (35 mm equivalent - 25-250 mm). In addition to the optical zoom, there is also a 4x digital zoom - a regular crop that reduces the resolution of the image. There is no built-in battery in Hasselblad True Zoom - it will devour smartphone resources.

The saddest thing about this module is the aperture ratio of the optics: f/3.5-6.5. While the original Moto Z is f/1.8 at wide angle - even with the use of a smaller sensor (1/3'') the image quality is better at the same resolution - thanks to the much lower ISO, the noise is not so annoy. But the optical stabilizer is effective - even at the maximum zoom, more or less decent, unblurred pictures are obtained.

Autofocus is not very well implemented - this is a common contrast system that works very slowly and from time to time incorrectly. The minimum focusing distance at wide angle is 5 cm.

The camera interface is also frustrating. It's Hasselblad! I would like at least minimal control over the process - but there is only an automatic mode and several scenes to choose from. But you can record RAW - but the icon for working with an uncompressed image format repeats the usual one; strange negligence. By the way, Leica-Huawei is reminiscent of not only extensive branding, but also an additional monochrome shooting mode.

What pleased me was the speed of work. The module has its own power button, it activates the camera application, and instantly - the “trunk” of the lens extends in less than a second. There is also a shutter button with a zoom control lever, it is quite convenient to work with the camera.

Examples of shooting on the Hasseblad True Zoom module

The quality of the pictures is not impressive - for the better in comparison with the camera of the smartphone itself, the dynamic range differs in the first place, but I liked the built-in Moto Z camera more in terms of color reproduction and work in the dark. But, again, a user with a Hasselblad True Zoom gets an offer that is actually unique for a smartphone - an optical zoom.

By the way, you cannot shoot 4K video using the module - only Full HD. And if you remove it and shoot just on a smartphone, then no problem. It smacks a little of fantasy.

The price of the module is, however, 19,990 rubles - you can think about buying a full-fledged camera with a large sensor and built-in Wi-Fi in order to transfer files to a smartphone and not lose efficiency.

The most logical module available today seems to be an additional Incipio offGRID battery at a price of 3,990 rubles - it is really useful and much more convenient than a power bank to use. Lenovo promises a great expansion of the fleet of plug-in modules - and it will be very interesting to see what else can come up in this specific area.
