How to choose a portable battery for your smartphone. Portable phone chargers: what they are and how they work

Portable external batteries for powering mobile devices, which were still a curiosity ten years ago, are now very popular. But the need to use them is different for all people. We can say for sure that the more “mobile” a person’s lifestyle is, the more he needs this device.

And if for those who relax on weekends by the river, this is simply a desirable attribute, then for hikers this is already a mandatory item of equipment: being left without navigation, light and communications in a deep forest is not the best prospect. An additional battery will also be useful for frequent travel due to business needs, as well as for long trips or flights (but in the latter case, you need to keep an eye on whether they are prohibited from being carried in hand luggage; the rules may change at any time).

There is a good English term for them in the world (power bank), but they haven’t come up with an equally short Russian term for them. The name “external battery” is most often used, but longer ones are also found: “universal external battery”, “portable external battery”, “portable charger" And in everyday life they are often called simply “power banks”. This is what they will be called in our review (for brevity).

Today we will conduct a mass test of eight devices with medium and high energy reserves (with a capacity of 5,000 mAh).

They are all from different manufacturers (Chinese, of course). And although the circuit and technical solutions here are largely standardized, the devices still turned out to be different. What they have in common is that they are all officially supplied to the Russian Federation. And this is a good sign: importers do not want problems with sales and claims from retail, so they test samples of products before purchasing a batch.

And so that the test results are perceived correctly, I will begin the review by stating several almost obvious postulates that are valid for all external batteries:

  1. All “power banks” contain a battery charge controller and an output voltage converter (since the output voltage is not equal to the voltage of the battery(s) actually used there, and it must be raised or lowered). The need for conversion (in a typical case - to a voltage of 5 V) is the main source of efficiency loss (losses on key transistors, on rectifier diodes, on the resistance of winding elements, etc.).
  2. The capacity of “power banks” is indicated by the nominal capacity of the battery installed in it, and not the one supplied to the load (which is always less, since the efficiency of the converter cannot be one hundred percent).
  3. The nominal capacity of the battery inside the “power bank” may not coincide with the actual one - like all radio elements, batteries have a nominal tolerance. Usually no one indicates the tolerance value, but it can be taken for approximately +/- 10% (this also depends on the integrity of the manufacturer).

From these postulates comes the conclusion that it would be naive to hope to fully charge a phone, for example, with a 4,000 mAh battery, using a portable battery with a capacity of the same 4,000 mAh. This can happen in absolutely fantastic cases, when the capacity of the battery installed in the “power bank”, due to technological variation, turns out to be significantly higher than the nominal value. And there is no “cheating” in this: it’s physics!

A few words about determining the efficiency of devices in the “fast charging” mode (when the output voltage increases above 5 V) and the difference from the calculation in the “normal mode”. In normal mode (supply voltage 5 V), the smartphone battery in most cases is charged with exactly the current that comes from outside (with small losses in the controller). But in the “fast charging” mode, the incoming power is converted to the current and charging voltage of the smartphone battery that is optimal for this without harming the battery. That is, the incoming power is used almost to the maximum.

In this regard, the efficiency for normal mode was calculated as the ratio of the supplied capacity of the “power bank” to its nominal value. If the manufacturer overestimates the capacity in the parameters, then he will ruin his own reputation by reducing the efficiency. And for the “fast charging” mode, the efficiency was determined by the transferred energy in Watt-hours (the transferred capacity was multiplied by the voltage at the output of the “power bank” in this mode).

The energy of the device under test was also determined from the nominal value of the “power bank”, and the battery voltage was taken to be 3.7 V.

Below are two tables with the characteristics of the tested models. The first shows the parameters of conventional “power banks” (with a capacity of 5,000 – 6,600 mAh), and the second shows with increased capacity(from 10,000 mAh).

Most of the presented devices are based on modern lithium-polymer batteries with a “flat” design and high energy density. An exception is the Anker and ADATA models; judging by the shape of the case, they use standard cylindrical batteries. Lithium-polymer batteries are a modern modification of lithium-ion batteries, which have improved characteristics: in addition to increasing energy density, the number of charge-discharge cycles has been increased and the amount of self-discharge has been reduced.

The “Price” column shows recommended retail prices and average prices according to Russian retail data. In reality, there is a very wide range of prices at different retail outlets (greed knows no bounds), so these data are an extremely rough guide; don't get me wrong.

The discharge of “power banks” to the load was tested in two modes: at the maximum permissible output current and at a current of 1 A (this is how much a “typical” smartphone consumes when charging). For models with “fast charging” support, the mode with the maximum permissible current was tested when the output voltage was set to 12 V. In addition, operation was tested at a low load (50 mA), which ideally should not be perceived as a complete shutdown of the load; and therefore should not work automatic shutdown devices.

In all tested portable batteries, short circuit protection worked successfully; not a single device could be burned. Other “automatic” functions also worked successfully: turning on when the load was connected, turning off when the load was disconnected.

To charge the “power banks,” a charger with an output voltage of 5 V and an output current of up to 3 A was used, which should have met the needs of any of the heroes of the review. For the “purity of the experiment,” the shortest cable was used when charging – 18 cm (an exception had to be made for the HIPER EP6600, details below).

For control electrical parameters a USB tester and a QC2.0/QC3.0 “fast charging” emulation board were used, connected in series:

The emulation board was used only to test the “fast charging” mode; when testing the standard mode (5 V), it was excluded from the circuit. A check was also carried out in “combat work” - the actual charging of a smartphone, which has poor autonomy (and therefore the situation with its recharge from a “power bank” is very vital).

The difference between real recharge of smartphones and laboratory tests with a fixed load current consists of two factors. Firstly, the charge current real devices is not constant (as a rule, it is higher than the average current at the beginning of charging and lower at the end). Secondly, during charging the device works and therefore energy consumption continues at the same time as charging.

I chose my personal Sony as a test smartphone. I always use it “outdoors” because it provides excellent navigation quality, acceptable photo quality, is hermetically protected from water and is resistant to minor impacts. But its battery is modest - only 1,910 mAh, which is why real life When I go out into nature, I always take a power bank with me. The number of charges from the tested devices was checked. The result will be expressed as the sum of the percentage of smartphone charge.

And finally, the last point of the program is to check the charging of mobile devices “on the go”, when the latter is connected to the “power bank”, and the latter is connected to the charger. If the mode operates successfully, both the external battery and the mobile device powered by it must be charged. This situation is not vital, but it is of interest.

Review of Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 5000 NDY-02-AM

First, let me briefly list it again

Capacity5,000 mAh
Output current2.1 A
Weight156 g
Dimensions125.0 x 69.0 x 9.9 mm

Xiaomi Mi NDY-02-AM is the only “small” portable battery with a metal (aluminum) case presented in the review:

This model made in a flat body with rounded sides and flat ends. In general, the look turned out to be strict, but elegant. Let's note the rough surface, which will make the scratches that inevitably occur during use less noticeable.

At one end there is information about the device, although it is printed in a hard-to-read light gray font (in addition to the manufacturing date):

The entire “control panel” is located at the other end:

Everything is located here: a control button, a charge level indicator of four white LEDs, a microUSB port for charging and a full-size USB port for connecting a chargeable device.

The charge level indicator does not work quite normally. When charging the “power bank”, it constantly lights up as a “thermometer” of this process (everything is usual here). But when the device is being discharged, the indicator behaves differently: it “blinks” at large intervals, and the number of blinking LEDs shows the level of remaining charge.

The only button can be used mainly to control its own charge: pressing it “animates” the indicator. It is not necessary to use it to turn on the device in “combat” use: thanks to automatic switching on When the load is connected, everything works on its own. And when turned off it doesn't work at all. To do this, you need to disconnect the load or wait until it is fully charged.

It should be noted that if the button does not turn off, this is not a defect of the device. In “power banks,” it has historically developed that this button works to control charge and turn on (and many models do not have it at all). Therefore, the ability to turn off the device is the exception, not the rule. This will also apply to all other test subjects.

Xiaomi's Powerbank is one of the few participants in our test competition that supports on-the-go charging. Simply put, you can connect it to a power source (for charging) and at the same time connect a charging device (for example, a phone) to it. This will charge both devices.

Conclusions

Xiaomi, as always, turned out to be a “classic of the genre.” The device is not loaded with any frills and does not try to portray something “sophisticated”, but works properly in all respects and in a manner familiar to the user. Also, many will like the nice metal body.

The only “but” is that our Chinese comrades have learned to counterfeit not only Apple and Samsung products, but also their own Xiaomi (because it is very popular). Therefore, when buying in dubious places, there is a chance of running into a battery “similar to Xiaomi”.

Review of Nobby Comfort NBC-PB-06-01

Main technical characteristics:

Capacity6,000 mAh
Output current2.1 A
Weight155 g
Dimensions131.0 x 71.0 x 14.5 mm

This “powerbank” came to us in completely “Russified” packaging:

The box includes a microUSB cable and instruction manual:

The instructions in this case are a purely formal document (they just have to be there). Nothing interesting is described in it, except for the obvious things.

The cable is quite short, 30 cm. But it is made this way not because the manufacturer is sorry for the wires, but because a short cable has less resistance and, accordingly, less losses. This remark also applies to all other tested devices.

The Nobby model received a dark blue plastic case with a pleasant soft-touch surface:

The main feature that distinguishes it from the others in our review is the presence of a digital battery charge indicator (visible in the upper right corner of the photo). This will allow the user to better understand the current state of the external battery.

Purely outwardly, it seems that the “power bank” is inserted into the blue case and can be pulled out from there. But, alas, this is not so. What appears to be a blue case is an integral part of the case and nothing can be taken out of it. You can also find some similarity in the shape of the device with a lighter, only very large.

The body of the “power bank” is distinguished by the rounding of all corners and edges, except for the end on which the “control panel” is located (it is flat):

The “control panel” is extremely simple: a microUSB connector for charging, a full-size USB for discharging, and a control button, which, as in the previous case, is not necessary at all (but can be useful for monitoring the device’s status). The latter only works to turn on and control the battery charge.

Among the features, it should be noted that when charging the “power bank” itself, it was charged up to 95% with normal speed(in about four hours), and gained the last 5% slowly (it took him another hour and a half). And if time is limited, it is not necessary to wait for a full charge; 95% is also not bad.

Measurement results technical parameters:

Device modelNobby Comfort NBC-PB-06-01
Nominal capacity6,000 mAh
Accepted charge6,061 mAh
Charging duration4 hours 01 minutes (up to 95%)
Average charging current1.51 A
4,422 mAh; 73.7%
4.55 V
Output capacity 5 V/1 A; Efficiency4517 mAh; 75.3%
Voltage in 5 V/1 A mode4.66 V
Number of smartphone charges 1,910 mAh 220%
Support "low load" 50 mAEat
On-the-go charging supportEat

Conclusions

The device, just like the previous Xiaomi battery, performs its functions completely and without problems, including working with a low load and charging “on the go.”

Of the advantages, two additional features should be noted. The first and main thing is the digital charge indication. This is not only pleasant, but also useful, since it gives the consumer more accurate information than a standard “thermometer” of four LEDs. The second positive feature is the case made of soft-touch plastic. Many users like this material, and it successfully competes with metal cases.

There are no obvious shortcomings, but those features that we usually call “may not suit you” include a long period of charging the last 5% of the charge. In principle, most lithium battery devices slow down charging at the end, but here the slowdown is greater than usual.

HIPER EP6600 Review

Main technical characteristics:

Capacity6,600 mAh
Output current2.1 A (5 V)
Weight140 g
Dimensions141.0 x 71.0 x 8.0 mm

IN technical specifications there is nothing special, but in the external design there is:

This “power bank” is enclosed in a glossy plastic case in the shape of a regular smartphone, but the design of the front side puzzled me: I could not immediately identify what kind of pattern it was.

The solution came after turning it on:

Before us is the silhouette of a black cat. When the device is turned on (in any case - charging or discharging), the cat's eyes glow and inform the owner that the device is “in use”.

At the same time, the eyes also “blink”. The blinking stops when the device is fully charged in charging mode. And the current battery charge level is also displayed by them. The larger it is, the bigger eyes“open” (four levels of “opening” are provided).

This power bank model is available in several designs, but cat eyes are present in all versions. In contrast to the front side, there is nothing interesting on the back side, except for technical parameters:

A simple external battery control panel is located on the top edge:

Here there is a control button (optional, as in previous cases), a full-size USB connector (for connecting a chargeable device) and a microUSB connector for charging the “power bank” itself. The control button works fully - on, off and charge control.

Monitoring of technical parameters gave the following results:

Device modelHIPER EP6600
Nominal capacity6,600 mAh
Accepted charge6,476 mAh
Charging duration5 hours 42 minutes
Average charging current1.14 A
Output charge 5 V/2.1 A; Efficiency4,329 mAh; 65.6%
Voltage in mode 5 V/2.1 A4.76 V
Output capacity 5 V/1 A; Efficiency4,441 mAh; 67.3%
Voltage in 5 V/1 A mode4.90 V
Number of smartphone charges 1,910 mAh 216%
Support "low load" 50 mAEat
On-the-go charging supportNo

This model does not support “on-the-go” charging: when it is connected to a power source, charging the connected mobile device stops.

The initial attempt to charge the power bank with a short cable (18 cm) had to be interrupted, since the charge current at the beginning of the process was 2.64 A. This value exceeded the charge current declared for the device of 2 A. The problem was solved by connecting a longer cable (1 m), which introduced additional losses into the circuit, and the current at the beginning of the charge decreased to 1.26 A.

In reality, this problem may not occur to all users, since its manifestation will depend on the charger used.

Conclusions

Despite its “toy” appearance, the HIPER model is quite capable of delivering the required amount of charge for a phone. The relatively low efficiency value is compensated by a slightly higher battery capacity compared to other participants in our “competition”.

The plus side is the interesting design with “cat’s eyes”. This design is unusual and attracts attention. The downside is that the charging current is higher when using a “short” cable, which can have a bad effect on the life cycle of the battery. The problem can be solved simply, but the manufacturer does not warn about this.

Review of Canyon CNS-TPBP5DG

Main technical characteristics:

Capacity5,000 mAh
Output current2.0 A (5 V)
Weight128 g
Dimensions138.2 x 69.2 x 9.4 mm

For some reason, on most websites for this “power bank” the dimensions and weight in the package are indicated. Therefore, our own measurements are presented here.

The body of the device is plastic, with a matte surface, while the top and bottom sides are of different colors. The top side is lighter:

And the bottom side is correspondingly darker:

The controls and connectors of the device are located on different side faces.

On one of the wide side faces there is a control button (also not very necessary) and a charge indicator:

The control button, although not very necessary (thanks to the automatic on-off switch), works fully functionally: both on and off.

And on the opposite side there is a microUSB connector for charging the “power bank”:

At the end there are three more connectors: two full-size USB outputs for charging connected devices and a Lightning connector for charging the power bank:

Thus, the Canyon model received two inputs and two outputs. Moreover, the inputs for charging it are different: microUSB and Lightning, which will allow you to charge with any of these types of cables.

At the same time, it is advisable for the user to pay attention that connecting two powerful devices to charge simultaneously can exceed the maximum permissible output current of the “power bank” and cause a decrease in the voltage at its outputs (or tripping of the protection).

Monitoring of technical parameters gave the following results:

Device modelCanyon CNS-TPBP5DG
Nominal capacity5,000 mAh
Accepted charge5,111 mAh
Charging duration4 hours 55 minutes
Average charging current1.04 A
Delivered charge 5 V/2 A3,532 mAh; 70.6%
Voltage in 5 V/2 A mode4.73 V
Output capacity 5 V/1 A3,784 mAh; 75.7%
Voltage in 5 V/1 A mode 4.93
Number of smartphone charges 1,910 mAh 191%
Support "low load" 50 mAEat
On-the-go charging supportNo

This external battery does not support charging devices on the go. When it is connected to charge itself, the power supply to the outputs stops.

Conclusions

This model is equipped with two inputs for charging (this can be noted as a plus) and two outputs for discharging to a load. We can write down the last fact as a “plus” only conditionally – simultaneous connection of two powerful devices (for example, smartphones with capacious batteries) “power bank” may not approve, its output current is not that high for this. It is better to recharge such gadgets one at a time.

Among the conditional “cons” we can note the very simple plastic case (which had a positive effect on the price of the device).

Hello friends! Today's topic is relevant for people who are constantly on the move. It doesn't matter if you are a tourist, an athlete or a student. Anyone can find themselves in a situation where, at the most unfortunate moment, they are left without communication. How to prevent this?

Today we will talk about how to choose a portable battery for your phone and always be within reach. Modern gadgets not only provide a lot of opportunities, but also cause a lot of inconvenience by quickly draining the battery. You will learn what points to pay attention to when choosing this device and what to give preference to.

After reading this article, you can easily choose a reliable assistant. He will give you extra hours mobile communications and the Internet.

In modern society, a person without a smartphone is like without hands. It's hard to imagine that we could do without such things before. electronic devices. People managed to somehow not be late for meetings and even meet at all! Now it is difficult to imagine how this is possible without communication via smartphone.

He has become so integrated into our lives and accompanies us everywhere. Sometimes, solving some problems without it is not possible. Let's say terrain orientation. Google maps cleverly helps out with this. What about a calculator that is always at hand? Application for monitoring health, weight and so on.

People have become too spoiled by technology. When the phone dies, they feel helpless in this world. To avoid this situation, you must have a portable battery with you. Otherwise it is called - Power Bank.

A great thing that will save everyone when their battery is running low. will become less tedious if you have a working gadget at hand. With it you can read, listen to music, play games. What to say about students. Gadgets are the absolute salvation of young people. And the situation when they sit down before our eyes becomes incredibly stressful, because there is no way to properly charge it. After situations like this, many people purchase this device. It comes in handy when needed, does not require an outlet and is quite compact.

So, this product will be useful to everyone. It will not take up much space, but will bring many conveniences.

How to choose a portable battery for a smartphone

The acquisition of this device makes life much easier for modern people. But so that it does not lose its properties within a month, you should take a high-quality model. Therefore, I will help beginners who do not understand electronics not to “miss” with their purchase.

How not to make a mistake with your choice, and what to pay attention to?

Battery capacity

One of the important factors in choosing a device is the capacity, which is expressed in milliamps per hour. You should pay attention to the fact that the capacity of the external battery must be greater than the battery of the gadget being charged (about three times). This is logical if you want to use the charging device repeatedly. Usually the capacity of the Power Bank does not match the specified value. That is, it will not be one hundred percent effective. If it says 5000 mAh, you will not be able to fully charge your smartphone (2500 mAh) twice.

For small gadgets, a product up to 10 thousand mAh is suitable.

By carefully studying this information, you will understand which portable battery to choose for your smartphone.

The main thing is not to be fooled by low price. You need to adequately assess the situation and understand that a “powerful” device for little money is unlikely to meet your expectations.

Current strength

When the smartphone battery is low, every user wants it to charge faster. The speed of the process directly depends on the current strength, which is expressed in Amperes (A).

As a rule, smartphones require 1 A. This is what you need to take into account when choosing an external battery. Some models have two USB ports for 1 A and 2 A. This option will have a larger volume. Of course, its price will be appropriate.

If the current strength of the power bank is less than that required for the smartphone, then charging will take much longer.

Otherwise, when the current strength is greater than the required value, the smartphone is not at risk. No need to worry about this. Mobile phones have built-in protection that will limit the incoming current to a suitable value. That is, nothing bad will happen to the gadget. But it won’t charge faster either.

Some users choose a Power Bank with one input to save money. This is, let's say, irrational.

But often the “native” charger, powered from an outlet, charges the gadget faster than an external battery. Why is this happening? Surely, your phone has a fast charging function. Then you need to find a product model that supports the same technology.

There are universal power banks. According to the manufacturer, they independently determine the brand of the phone when connected and select the appropriate technology. Whether this is true or just another marketing ploy is difficult to say with complete certainty.

Weight and size

The above parameters will let you know which portable battery to choose. But for many, its weight and design are no less important.

The imagination of manufacturers is so vast that on store shelves you can find a whole series various Power Banks. From large-sized models that will charge a smartphone five times. To miniature ones, capable of briefly extending battery life. In addition, their colors are suitable for every taste and color. From bright and catchy images to calm traditional tones.

In addition, the product differs in its shape. A particularly practical option is a charging case. It does not take up much space and does not require wires for operation. For some users, this type is much more convenient than traditional power banks. But the fact is that the phone, being in such a case, does not fit so comfortably in the hand. Therefore, this option attracts few.

Additional features

At this point, the preferences of many users differ. Some people love minimalism. They don’t need anything other than the basic property of the product. Others, on the contrary, want to combine everything in one. Which is better? It’s not bad if the selected portable charging model is satisfactory in terms of characteristics and has some useful bells and whistles.

For example, an easy-to-use model that shows the remaining charge using a special indicator. In addition, a flashlight may be useful. In the dark, the battery will not only charge your smartphone, but also illuminate the way.

Another added benefit is the cable comes with different adapters. The fact is that the charging sockets of phones are different. And such a device will become a universal option.

In addition, pay attention to how the device itself is charged. Micro usb port will allow you to replenish its energy using a regular smartphone charger. But there are also options with built-in solar panels. However, their effectiveness is in doubt.

The main thing is not to look for a device that combines all possible functions and is inexpensive. As a rule, it is of low quality.

Best models Power Bank

An excellent choice for lovers of rigor. Stylish black design, ultra-thin body will suit everyone's taste. The battery has a capacity of 10 thousand mAh. In addition, it has two inputs for charging gadgets with different current strengths: 1 A and 2 A. The device can easily fit into your bag. And if necessary, it will charge not only your smartphone, but also your friend’s gadget.

The sophisticated matte design attracts the attention of every buyer. The slim design allows you to carry a portable charger in your pocket. Its capacity is 20,000 mAh. There is an electronic display showing the charge. The product has inputs for charging two smartphones at the same time. A great additional feature is the built-in flashlight.

The device looks like a smartphone, not a power bank. However, this appearance depends on the large capacity of the device - 13,000 mAh. The liquid crystal display shows the charge level. Therefore, it is possible to track how many charges he can still carry out. The device will easily and quickly replenish the battery level of two discharged gadgets at the same time.

A small external battery (3,000 mAh) will perfectly help you out at school or work. If your smartphone dies at the end of the day and you need to make an important call, this thing will save you. This Power Bank has one USB port. The interesting shape of the product is presented in traditional black and white colors. A good and economical option for people who are not travelers and are not constantly on the move.

Price: 1,010 - 1,145 rub.

Power Bank with a high capacity of 20 thousand mAh. That is, it can easily replenish your smartphone’s battery several times without requiring additional charging. It has two USB inputs with different current strengths, as well as a digital display. The device copes well with its main function and extends the life of the gadget when it is so necessary.

An excellent choice in a stylish and comfortable metal case. Two USB ports and accelerated charging will allow you to quickly “reanimate” two smartphones at the same time. In addition, the capacity of this model is 10 thousand mAh. By double pressing the power button, you have the ability to safely charge small gadgets. For example, bluetooth headsets, fitness bracelets. You can be sure of the originality of the product. The label on the package has a security code. To check, you should enter it on the manufacturer’s official website.

Where to buy a portable battery

Today, there are more than four thousand different models of this device in the country. The buyer is able to choose it not only according to the necessary characteristics, but also to his taste and color. Digital equipment stores offer a wide range of products. You just need to walk to a large supermarket that sells electronics. However, as you know, their prices are quite high.

Do you want to make your purchase more profitable? Trusted online stores that I recommend will help with this:

With their help, it will not take time to find a retail outlet, as well as a consultant who will hardly describe each model in detail. You will have the opportunity to independently study the characteristics of any option. And then you will give preference to one of them. And most importantly, time and money will be saved.

You already know how to choose it so that the price-quality ratio is at the same level.

Pay special attention to the characteristics of the product.

This item, like any other electronics, must be chosen responsibly. First of all, focus on the battery capacity and amperage. These are the most important points. To make the item more convenient, look for a model with the additional features you need. Appearance leave the goods for later. This is the last criterion from which to build. If several devices suit you according to their characteristics, then stop at the one that suits you best.

The main thing is not to forget that a compact model with a declared large capacity, many additional functions and a low price will not meet your expectations. A good option does not mean the most expensive. You should focus on the average cost - 1000 rubles. Products for such a price are often of quite good quality.

Along with the increase in functionality and performance of mobile phones, the requirements for batteries are also increasing. A typical battery can power the device for 2-3 days, but if operation involves activity on social networks, the use of multimedia and frequent conversations, then you can expect discharge in the coming hours. Moreover, carrying a charger with you is not always convenient - it’s not only about the need to find the treasured outlet, but also about attachment to it as such. The optimal solution to the problem may be a portable battery for mobile phones, also called a Power Bank. Such accessories also cause some trouble, but with them the user still gains some autonomy.

Selection by capacity

When first getting acquainted with the characteristics of external chargers, an inexperienced user may be fascinated by the huge capacity of such devices. For example, there are models with a capacity of 10,400 mAh. It would seem that such an arsenal would be enough for 5 sessions of replenishing the energy of a mobile phone whose battery contains 2,000 mAh. In reality, everything is not so simple. The fact is that a portable phone battery has a nominal voltage of 3.7 W. In turn, mobile devices are charged at 5 V. This difference leads to a loss in energy potential of up to 30%. And this is at best, since they are cheap Chinese models and provide no more than half of the declared volume.

But you still have to rely on official data - everything depends only on the brand of the manufacturer, based on whose reliability a discount should be made in the actual amount of energy. By the way, if a portable battery for a phone is purchased for the purpose of emergency maintenance of the device for a short period of time, then there is no need for a large capacity and you can limit yourself to a compact, but high-quality and reliable accessory.

Selection by current strength

For most users of mobile devices dependent on a power source, the charging speed indicator is also important. This characteristic is determined by the current strength, which is measured in Amperes (A). Typically phones and smartphones charge at 1A, while more demanding tablets require 2A. You should be guided by these indicators when choosing, by the way, it can be equipped with two outputs - 1A and 2A. As a rule, such models also have a decent volume - at least 7,800 mAh. Such devices, of course, are more expensive, so you may think about using an external battery with one output for maintenance different devices. But such a solution is inconvenient and risky, since the discrepancy in current strength is harmful to the phone. And this is not to mention that the charging process itself will take longer in the case of a tablet.

Buying a Power Bank without a battery

For the most economical ones, we recommend purchasing a separate Power Bank case and battery. This option is beneficial because you can initially be confident in the reliability and performance of the battery. In turn, the Power Bank will act only as a shell for the battery, ensuring interaction with the phone. True, there are also disadvantages to such a solution. The fact is that the portable battery for the phone in this case will operate on a weak outgoing current. Therefore, it will take more time to charge. On the other hand, the owner will have the opportunity to change the battery to another one, while maintaining the main Power Bank.

Manufacturers and prices

The importance of the quality of the charger has been noted more than once. In many ways, the reliability, durability and performance properties of external power supplies are determined by the manufacturer. As experts note, Korean models from LG and Samsung are the most trusted. Usually the sellers themselves do not hide the affiliation of the batteries with these brands. If the label does not indicate the manufacturer at all or if a little-known company appears in it, then it is better to refuse the purchase. It is also worth mentioning manufacturers specializing in the development of such devices. You can safely choose a portable external battery from the Melkco, YooBao or Momax lines. As for prices, they are quite affordable for the average user of a modern phone. Models with a capacity of 10,000 mAh or more usually cost 1.5-2 thousand rubles. By purchasing the 5,000 mAh option, you can even spend 1 thousand rubles. And these prices, by the way, apply to branded models.

Despite numerous attempts by developers to make mobile devices more comfortable for users, the problem of rapid discharge of the internal battery remains open. Under normal use cell phone, a standard charge lasts for 12 hours. People whose work involves permanent phone calls and access to the Internet, they can connect the phone in 5-6 hours.
