Scan from printer to computer. How to set up scanning from a printer to a computer

If you want to scan a document, then there is the possibility of scanning without recognition by pressing the scanner button, as well as scanning with recognition in a special program.
The scanning process consists of launching the program, selecting scanning parameters, recognizing text and images, as well as correcting errors that appear in abundance when recognizing poorly readable texts.
For those who are scanning for the first time, the main difficulty is to start scanning and do everything at least once so that there are no error messages and the output is a scanned document.
This article answers the question of how to scan, as well as recommendations on how to avoid errors that may arise during the operation of the scanner.

The scanning process is the same for conventional scanners and for MFPs.
The software looks different, but the settings remain the same.

Working with the scanner

First of all, we place the document that needs to be scanned into our scanner.
Usually a newspaper or any photograph will do for verification.
We open the top cover carefully, without unnecessary jerking or applying force. Usually the scanner cover is not secured and therefore can be removed completely, but I do not recommend tearing it out yourself, for example, on an MFP it may not be removed.

Once again, we check whether our scanner is located on a flat surface - the fact is that in some scanners the locking device of the scanning device is activated when the scanner is suspended, while other scanners have a special slider that needs to be moved so that the locking device is turned off.

If you hear a cracking sound when your scanner begins the scanning process, you may need to see if you actually disabled the locking device. There is a lock drawn next to the locking device, move it to the position where the lock is open, I repeat once again, the design is different in different scanners, in some it is enough to simply place the scanner on a flat surface, WATCH THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.

Sometimes a crackling sound appears and when the scanner is positioned normally, try disconnecting the scanner from the power supply and turning it on again - sometimes it helped me.

It seems like the scanner is not cracking? And the scanner drivers are installed, the drawing, or document, or photograph is ready for scanning - you can start scanning.

I put Gary Rosenzweig's book in my scanner. Macromedia Flash 8 Creating games using Action Script" let's try to scan its cover.

Scanning process in Abbyy FineReader

To scan, you must have the Abbyy FineReader program installed, and it can be any version, I didn’t notice a big difference.

1. At the beginning of scanning, click the scan button in the Abbyy FineReader program.

A window appears - depending on the manufacturer, what you see, please note that after the preliminary automatic scanning we see a black and white image.

In the window above you see a dotted line, it shows how much area will be scanned. You can move the dotted line yourself to limit the scanning area and speed up the scanning process. At high quality, the scanning process will be slowed down significantly. Move the cursor to the dotted line, it will change, turn into two differently directed arrows, you can press the left mouse button and hold the button to move the dotted line. When scanning texts, I usually forget about this feature, and if for some reason only a small part of your sheet is scanned - look at how your dotted lines are located - you may have to set the scanning area again.

If you need to change the settings, look for the corresponding bookmarks in the open window. You will most likely need to change the scan color and resolution.
In my case, I had to click on the button with the word in the inscription - settings, and then click on the Image Type - Gray setting and we see that there is a choice, select a color image.
We can also select Scaling - resolution, 300px is suitable for scanning text, for photographs you can choose more, but you will have to sit and wait for a long time. If you scan text, the program will give you a message stating that you need to scan at 300px resolution.
Don't forget to save your settings if required. I have a button with a floppy disk and the inscription Save - save.

Now you can click the “scan” button
This button sometimes looks like a picture of a scanner, and sometimes it's just a button that says Scan

2. When your document or photo is scanned, it appears in the Abbyy Fine Reader program window. Often the image is upside down, click “Image” - “Rotate 180 degrees” to flip the document as expected, or rotate it 90 degrees until we get the desired effect.
Problems may arise during recognition if the language in your document is Russian and in the Abbyy Fine program Reader language English recognition. Click “Tools” - “Options” (Ctrl+Shift+O) and in the window that appears, go to the “Recognition” tab. Select the recognition language “Russian-English”.

The same can be done from the front panel of the Abbyy Fine Reader program - look where the words “Russian-English” are in the picture, you can also change the recognition language.

When we have decided on the recognition language, we begin to highlight our document in blocks. If the document contains only text, then this is one block; if the document contains text and a picture, then you will have to select the text and picture in different blocks.
There are three main types of blocks, they differ in color and recognition.
The first block is text (green)
Second block – picture (red)
The third block is the table (blue). For correct recognition, the table must also be analyzed. Right-click on the highlighted blue block and select “Block Analysis” from the menu.
If all your blocks are gray, you can move the cursor to them and press the right mouse button, then select “Block Type”, follow the black arrow to the drop-down window and select the block type we need there.
You can see how I did it, you can do it your own way depending on what you need, I need to get a black and white image. Therefore, I move the cursor to the corner of the image and, by pressing the left mouse button, I stretch the block over the entire image. My block is gray, I chose the block type as described above - the image and the color of the block became red. If it doesn’t work out for you, then the blocks can be stretched by moving the cursor to any of their boundaries and when it changes by pressing the left mouse button and dragging further, and blocks can also be deleted by highlighting and pressing the Del button on the keyboard
Click the “Recognize” button

3. Click the send button.
When my scanned image and your document are recognized, you can start transferring it to MS Word, by the way, if you don’t have this program installed yet, you won’t be able to transfer it, so just click transfer and select the type of document into which you want to transfer the recognized text and image, I always transfer it to MS Word.

Scanning photographs and documents onto a computer is one of the most common operations in everyday life and in various professional activities. A successfully completed procedure helps to digitize documents for further processing, storage and transmission. The process is simple and accessible, so knowing how to scan from a printer to a computer is accessible to ordinary people. The main thing is to perform the correct sequence of actions, which you will learn from this article.

Scanning process

For any special device manufactured by HP, Canon or Samsung (SCX series), the scanning procedure is identical. Each new scanning device is released into operation along with a disk on which the necessary drivers are stored. If you do not have the necessary software, you can download it on the Internet. Users who scan from a printer for the first time note that if the instructions are strictly followed, the process does not take much time and effort.

To successfully scan using a multifunction device, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Pre-install the necessary drivers. If they are not equipped with a printer, download them from the appropriate sites.
  2. Place the item to be scanned on the appropriate panel with the design or text facing the glass.
  3. Turn on the MFP if it is disconnected from the network.
  4. Enter the “Devices and Printers” section. It is located on the main control panel.
  5. Right-click on the device icon to display a context menu.
  6. Set parameters.
  7. Select the “Start Scan” function.
  8. Click and start the process.

Important! To preview the result, you can select the corresponding function on the device - the “Preview” button.

Scan text to PC

There are two options for scanning documents in the OS: text and image. The difference between them is that if the scanner creates a photo of the text by default, then it is no longer possible to edit it. To make corrections to a scanned document, the user must use a recognizer - additional software. It is usually available on the disk that comes with the printer. If the disk is lost, you can download the necessary program, just remember that each scanner has its own drivers.

To work successfully with text document Users follow this procedure:

  1. Connect the scanner to a PC or laptop.
  2. Install existing drivers.
  3. Set up the machine for scanning using the Scanner Wizard program.
  4. Lift the scanning device cover.
  5. Place the document face down on a clean glass.
  6. Lower the cover of the device.
  7. Click “Hardware and Sound” on “Control Panel”.
  8. Go to the “Devices and Printers” section that appears.
  9. Select “Start Scanning”.
  10. Set the parameters appropriate for the document.
  11. See what happens by selecting the “Preview” function.
  12. Make the necessary corrections.
  13. Click the “Scan” function.
  14. Save the result on your computer or print it.

Scan using software

If there is still work to be done with the scanned text, the user will need to use software. In addition, additional equipment helps achieve better picture quality and makes the process more efficient and comfortable.

Process of the software using the example of scanning from a Sensys printer:

  1. Install the device and software.
  2. Open the list of programs.
  3. Launch the application for your existing printer model.
  4. Click “Scan”.
  5. The software will prompt you to change the scanning parameters.
  6. Make the necessary edits.
  7. Specify storage location.
  8. To make corrections, preview the file.
  9. Scan the result.
  10. Store in a prepared storage location.

Important! If you give the document a name when saving, it will be easier to find later. This also applies to removable media.

Scanning using Paint

Scan using a simple traditional graphic editor also enjoys excellent recommendations from users. This service program is already in the Windows operating system.

The method of working with Paint involves performing the following actions:

  1. Find the editor shortcut along the following path: “Start” - “All Programs” - “Accessories”.
  2. Select the line “From a scanner or camera” in the “File” menu.
  3. Decide on the parameters.
  4. Scan a document.

Important! If on system device Windows 7, 8 or 10 is installed, you can enter the program using the search bar.

Setting scan options

To obtain a good quality scan, you need to set special parameters. The resolution—the number of dots per inch—depends on these settings. The better the resolution, the better the quality of the scan image.DPI is responsible for this function.

The most popular DPI indicators are:

  • 100-200. It differs in the speed of image transfer. The quality is inferior.
  • 300-400. Optimal value if you plan to work with text documents.
  • 500-600. Designed for scanning with maximum detail transfer. Excellent quality.

Important! Users of the Paint editor note how quick and easy it is to change settings.

Scanning photos

Gone are the days when photographs could only be developed in photo studios. With the arrival digital technologies This process has been greatly simplified and the user can take and then print photos without contacting the relevant services.

The main thing is to choose correct settings and follow the necessary procedure:

  1. Connect the multifunctional device to the computer.
  2. Turn on the equipment.
  3. In the application on the computer, designate the color.
  4. Set the desired “Photo” format.
  5. Set the highest DPI settings.
  6. Make a scan.
  7. Save the result.
  • When printing photos using a scanner, you need to ensure transparency and perfect cleanliness of the glass. If there is contamination, even minor, the photos will turn out to be of poor quality.
  • Do not lift the scanner lid while printing or tamper with settings after the process has started.
  • To successfully adjust the image before printing, experts recommend using a graphics editor.

As you can see, using a printer or MFP to make scans of photos and any documents is an extremely simple process. If you still doubt anything, then a visual master class on performing such tasks will help you out. Watch it in the video below.

An integral part of the work of any modern person is contact with the digital world. Now it is difficult to imagine someone who has never interacted with a computer, printer, or copier. In this regard, a completely ordinary question arises - how to scan a document onto a computer?

Using the scanner is a very simple task. And even if you don’t have your own unit at home, it’s okay. You can go to any Internet cafe. Most supermarkets have a corner where they provide a scanning service. In essence, a scan is a so-called translation of a document into digital view, thanks to which it becomes possible to exchange information of this type throughout the world, which greatly facilitates our modern life.

To make it, a so-called snapshot is taken, but, unlike simple printing, the data is transferred to a computer. This whole procedure is incredibly simple and fast, so absolutely anyone can cope with this task.

Preparing for scanning in stages

First, you will have to acquire the unit itself, unless, of course, this work is not an isolated case for you, and you will never have to do such things again. Let's say that this is an HP Deskjet 1510 All-in-One - a combination of a scanner and driver in one case.

You need to connect it to system unit. To do this, use a standard USB cable, which is always provided with the equipment. In order to control your scanner, you need to install the appropriate software that is included in the kit. To install the software, you must follow the instructions on your computer screen or in the user manual that came with your device.

The problem is that the software comes on DVD, and the drive is hard to get (nobody really needs it). Therefore, you should start by downloading the driver from the manufacturer’s website. Don't install the drive just because the supplier gave you a DVD. A weak power supply will not start at all with such a load created by the stepper motor. The computer will not even pass POST tests.

  1. After joining Windows devices will certainly discover it. According to the rules, first install the driver, then turn on the scanner's power, but we already copied the software once, so operating system immediately began installing new equipment.
  2. To find out whether the installation went smoothly, after finishing it, go to the Device Manager (for Windows 10 - by right-clicking on the Start button). At the very end of the list, our scanner-printer is clearly visible.
  3. This allows us to hope that the device is fully functional. This means you need to check it immediately. Let's scan the software disk and see what happens. Please note that the lid must be closed. The laser used to read information is not as powerful as a printer, but there is no need to stare at it. Through the Control Panel (under Windows 10 – Windows + X) go to Devices and Printers.
  4. Here you can see as many as 4 scanners. We will not consider fax today. Three software scanners are used to record a document in PDF or other graphic format. This is very convenient when you need to protect your information from being changed. But we came to look at Deskjet. Right-click on its icon and a context menu will appear.
  5. Select Start scanning, and a primitive window with a minimum of settings opens. This sign alone shows that the scanner’s native software has been demolished.
  6. The most valuable setting is resolution. For example, when printing T-shirts, this parameter should be no less than 300 dpi. Therefore, the default figure is not suitable, and you need to increase it. You can also create an image for printing on your own using standard applications, like GIMP. Formally, the more dots, the smoother the drawing. This is important because the human eye is very picky.
  7. After clicking Scan, the device huffed and fiddled for a long time, because 300 dpi is a very high resolution. Then Windows presented a window that may not be very clear to the average user.
  8. Here, selecting the first option will lead to a folder where you can sort the images, and the second option will involve saving to disk directly. By clicking Additional options, we open the settings window, where you can specify additions to the file name (date, time) and some other information.
  9. To scan a document, it must satisfy several rules - be of such a format that it can fit into the equipment itself without damaging it. If the document is convex, its dimensions are larger than the equipment itself, or it contains reflective and other elements, this action will not be possible. This will open a folder containing the image file.

The image is very beautiful, but dirty. That is why, before scanning, they try to obtain and install software supplied with the equipment. Then the process is much faster, and you can make the appropriate adjustments to adjust the colors to avoid this result. Let's try this for the Deskjet 1510.

Search for scanner software

The first step is to search the website of Hewlett-Packard, the company that produces the Deskjet. This is a large company, and for sure its Internet resource will provide everything you need. From the hp.com menu, select the MFP section.

On the page that opens, enter the initial letters and numbers of the name to see: the product is outdated and not supported.

This is unfortunate because our MFP is just over a year old. 5 months after purchasing it, it ran out of ink and our life became hell. On inkjet printer components are sold at terrible prices. And it is almost impossible to refill the cartridge correctly. Now it’s not clear where to go for the driver. Let's try another way: through support.

In the window that opens, enter the name of the device.

Our All-in-One MFP was at the top of the list. An uninvited tear slipped from the cheek - they remember, they haven’t forgotten.

Lo and behold, Windows 10 64-bit is supported - download it quickly. According to the supplier, the driver was developed six months after purchase, therefore, it cannot physically be on the bundled DVD. ABOUT! Now we will be renewed and we will overthrow mountains. Rather, click Download.

No such luck, - they offer to install an assistant. This is probably the same software that prevented us from working and every time sabotaged our honest attempts to use a cartridge filled with third-party ink. In this case, one side of the sheet was printed, but the other was not printed. Moreover, the printing happened every other time. Let’s take the risk of choosing the second option, because such an assistant does not know what service he will provide. The 100 MB file took a good minute to download. All this time, memories of the past were choking, about how the printer refused to print with pirated ink, and the enemies laughed at the damaged paper. Apparently, many people found themselves in this situation, and not everyone was so accommodating. This is the sign now available on the company’s website.

Abroad, turning off protection is considered a favor. With us, anyone on minimum wage can buy 1 cartridge per month. If the wife pays for the apartment...

Driver installation

During installation, HP graciously offered their software. But since we ourselves have a mustache, we decided to configure it by throwing out all these bounties from the software package.

While the driver was being installed, the wait was brightened up by the sight of beautiful girls and the guys surrounding them. But there were no us running around the whole city in search of pirate ink...

The printer software then prompted for a zip code and began sending some information to the server. Buying HP products makes you feel like a spy. Surely we are being watched now... And they want to catch us selling secret information that has long been sold by others, but others think that we don’t know about it... Big Brother is watching you... 85% of British people are sure that they are being watched. Data obtained from personal telephone conversations and correspondence...

The driver was installed, and we avoided registering the printer, already the third or fourth in a row in just under a year and a half. The long-awaited shortcut is on the table, click and enter. Double click!!! Here it is!

Fearing even to penetrate the holy of holies of HP - printing, we hastily click Scan a document. An unfriendly window differs little from the default one in Windows. I've come across scanners that are more advanced in terms of software, but you'll have to work with this.

Let's try to somehow improve the result using additional parameters so that all these searches for software are justified.

Scanning with standard software

Having set some options, click Scan, and a preview window appears (set in options), which allows you to change parameters on the fly. The first view of the scan, frankly speaking, is the same. Judge for yourself.

Let's start making adjustments. With some grief we managed to get this:

It looks good, although the colors have faded a lot. Perhaps there is a chance to fix this with third-party software. But that's a completely different story. Conclusion? The HP Deskjet 1510 MFP does not suffer from an excess of settings, as a result, it is very difficult to obtain a high-quality image. It’s better to buy a DSLR camera and take artistic photos. There will be much more sense.

You may argue that the camera can’t print, but trust experienced users - the HP Deskjet 1510 MFP can’t do this now either. And for 4,500 rubles he definitely won’t be able to do this anymore. It is better to buy one full-fledged SLR camera for 22,500 rubles than 5 MFPs.

Scan by stages

Lift the cover of the equipment and place the document with the information side down on it. Open the program. For example, there are such proven and reliable programs for Android and Windows as:

  • Ridoc;
  • ABBYY Finereader;
  • Scanitto;
  • BlindScanner;
  • CuneiForm;
  • VueScan.

They will help you cope with the task and select the appropriate settings for scanning.

Select scan settings in the program. Often you need to sift through several options. Press the “Scan” button in your program or directly on the scanner itself and wait for a signal that the scan was successful.

But now there is a much simpler and affordable way scanning documents to a computer that requires no installation or purchase special programs. Today the Paint program is introduced on the market.

This program is compatible with all scanners and does not cause any inconvenience when using it. Its undoubted advantage is that it is included in any standard Windows package, which is most likely installed on your computer. Don’t think so, Paint can not only draw, but also help with scanning the necessary documents!

Step-by-step instructions or how to scan a document to your computer using Paint

Obviously, Paint did the best job today. This means that scanner is different from scanner, and it is not always necessary to use the driver package supplied by the manufacturer.

Scanning a document or photo onto a computer is a frequently used operation both in everyday life and in the professional activities of any of us. This operation allows us to convert to digital format any document for its subsequent processing, sending to the addressee or storage.

The scanning procedure is almost the same for any peripheral devices manufacturers such as HP, Canon and Epson. The main condition is that their hardware includes a scanner; you can’t live without it!

Even a novice computer user can scan; there is nothing complicated about it. You just need to perform a few simple steps and your scan is ready!

The process of scanning a document.

Each scanning device is equipped with the necessary software recorded on disk. Before starting work, you need to download the programs from the disk to your computer. If the disk is missing, then everything necessary programs can be found on the Internet, they are free to download.

Let's look at this process using the HP Photo Smart 210 MFP as an example.

This is a 3 in 1 multifunctional device: printer, scanner and copier. The MFP is equipped with a Wi-Fi module, which allows you to wireless connection with a computer.
Let's not focus on this topic, the connection with the computer is established - let's begin preliminary preparations for scanning the document:

All! The process of scanning and saving text or photos is complete! Now you can process your scan in the appropriate editor for the document, send it by mail or send it to cloud storage!

If you have any questions, leave them in the comments!

Scanning all kinds of texts, images, graphs and tables is a necessity in the modern office work of any organization. Therefore, the question of how to scan documents from a printer to a computer still remains relevant for a number of users of such office equipment. In general, solving this problem and scanning the required number of documents on a printer is very easy.

What is needed for scanning?

To solve a problem like “how to scan a document onto a computer” you will need personal computer, and its type and performance are not of great importance and the device itself, which is equipped with a scanner. Those. in this case, you need a scanning printer, and not any device of this type.

In addition to a PC and office equipment with a scanner, you will also need the appropriate software. For example, an excellent option is the ABBYY FineReader program, which allows you not only to scan documents, but also to perform text recognition in more than 150 languages!

VueScan, which is a lightweight and convenient software that supports most of the flatbed scanners available today, as well as multifunction devices, is also somewhat popular. Documents scanned using this utility can be saved not only in JPEG or TIFF formats, but also in PDF, which is very convenient when working in the office. The most important thing is that this program has a built-in OCR system, which is designed for optical character recognition. Therefore, to recognize scanned text you do not need additional utilities.

The two programs listed are paid, so if you are looking for a completely free option, you can resort to CuneiForm. Despite its “free” nature, this utility has good functionality; for example, it can be used to work with various printed fonts and recognize texts in two dozen languages. It can also recognize tables. To improve the quality of recognized texts, the program has the ability to compare words with a dictionary that can be constantly expanded.

If you do not want to download and install any of the programs described above on your personal computer, then use the usual “Scanner Wizard”.

Sequence of actions

  1. Before answering the question about how to make a scan, take and connect the scanner to your PC. The computer, in turn, must have drivers installed that match your printer model. You can install them either from the CD that comes with the office equipment, or by pre-downloading latest version of this software from the manufacturer's website.
  2. After installing the driver and connecting the scanner, carefully open its covers and place a sheet of text. To solve the problem of how to scan a document onto a computer successfully, turn it face down on the glass and place it as evenly as possible, focusing on the special pointers. After this you can close the lid.
  3. In the next step, select the section called “Devices and Printers” in Start, then right-click on the desired device. In the drop-down list, click on the item that implies starting a scan.
